Jasmin Altagracia
I first found clay during a period of personal hardship, and after returning to it following college, I rediscovered the same sense of connection that continues to shape my practice today. The studio has become a place of reflection, where creating is inseparable from healing.
My work explores growth through the lens of lived experience as Latina. Drawing from the emotional and physical realities of womanhood, I examine themes of body image, pain, trauma, and resilience. Organic forms suggest the body's vulnerability and strength, while carved surfaces hold traces of memory, struggle, and protection. I often meditate on how emotional experiences become embedded in the body and how those experiences can be translated into clay.
Rather than offering conclusions, my sculptures invite quiet reflection. I pray my work creates space for viewers to recognize something of their own experiences within the work, fostering a bond through our shared journey of overcoming adversity and choosing self love.
